Chikatosha Shrine/Juninoki site
Historic Site/Japan Heritage
This site is a village from predominantly the early Jomon period that overlooks the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake and the Lake Suwa basin. Ruins of wooden pillars believed to be the origin of the Suwa region's Onbashira (log-dragging) Festival were discovered here. Based on evidence such as the excavation of pottery brought in from outside showing exchanges with other regions, this area is thought to have been a key point of traffic in the area. Articles excavated from this site are stored and on display at the Suwa City Museum.
