Artifacts of Tenjin site
Cultural Heritage/Japan Heritage
One of the highlights of Tenjin site is a jade pendant that is among the oldest and dates from the Early Jomon Period (c. 5,000-3,500 BC). The jade producing areas of the Japanese archipelago are only in Itoigawa and Himegawa river valley in Niigata Prefecture, which is around 200 km from Tenjin site. This site contained obsidian which also originates far from Tenjin site. These discoveries are indicative of the broad range of prehistoric trade and exchanges.
