Uenodan Stone Age Site
Historic Site/Japan Heritage
The location of Uenosan site is close to Hoshigato and Hoshikuso Pass obsidian mines in the Kirigamine Highlands. A local archaeologist, Miyasaka Fusakazu (1877?1975) excavated this site in 1936. Artifacts of this site widely range from the Initial (c. 10,000?5,000 BC) to the Final (c. 1,700?400 BC) Jomon Period. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1942.
