Yatsugatake Museum of Art (Hara Village Folk History Museum)
The Yatsugatake Museum of Art (Hara Village Folk History Museum) was established in 1980 and is located in the glorious landscape at the foothills of Mt Yatsugatake. The fine art collection is rooted in a donation to Hara Village in 1978 from one of the internationally leading sculptors, Mr. Shimizu Takashi (1897?1981), who was born in Hara Village. A second significant collection is by the calligrapher Mr. Tsugane Kakusen (1900?1960), also from Hara Village. The Hara Village Folk History Museum is attached to the Yatsugatake Museum of Art, and highlights a pottery vessel with arched handle and decorated with human face from Middle Jomon Period (c. 3,500?2,500 BC) Maeone site and artifacts from the National Historic Site, Akyu site dating to the Early Jomon Period (c. 5,000?3,500 BC).
