Museum
Yatsugatake Museum of Art (Hara Village Folk History Museum)

An art museum in the highlands that is surrounded by the glorious nature found at the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake. On display are sculptures and paintings by Takashi Shimizu, an artist born in Hara Village, as well as works by Kakusen Tsugane, a calligrapher also from Hara Village. The museum also exhibits Jomon pottery and stone tools excavated from sites in Hara Village, including a vessel with an arched handle and decorated with a human face, which is a Japan Heritage Cultural Property Component, as well as articles from the Akyu site—a National Historic Site and another Japan Heritage Cultural Property Component. Visitors to the museum can feel the energy of the art created by the Jomon people and glimpse a pocket of Jomon culture that bloomed at the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake.
