Artifacts of Tonai site

The excavation projects of Tonai site, a part of Idojiri, the Middle Jomon Period (c. 3,500?2,500 BC) site complex, began since 1953 by local scholars. Tonai site remains include pottery vessels from the Middle Jomon Period that appear to embody the spirituality of the Jomon people. 199 items were designated National Important Cultural Properties in 2002.
