Deep pot of Katsurano site

This deep pot of Katsurano site of the Middle Jomon Period (c. 3,500?2,500 BC) was found in 1955 during construction of an agricultural road. The “uzumaki-mon” (decorative spiral or scroll) pattern on the surface of the pottery was unlike anything seen before. This pot is designated Yamanashi Prefecture Important Cultural Property.
